an unusual romantic heroine

So, I finished Emma.
I love the story. 'Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich' ..spoiled...selfish...unwittingly searching for love.. an 1800heroine or a representative of 21st C life?

Despite writing in the 1800s I love that Jane Austen wrote about a heroine who is imperfect ('unlikable' one critic judged) and makes split second judgements about others. This is something that we all do (as women?) now in the 21st century: a time when I feel people value appearances and material possesions more than anything else ~ It's amazing that even though we're years behind her, what she writes is still relevant..
note to self. remember what's important.

many talents, or lack of concentration?

Currently:
~ surfing people's blogs, just to see what's out there (interesting)
Listening to Broken Bells Vapourise (exciting) ~ have a listen!
Watching the Australia v. Germany football match. (disappointing)

I've got two books on the go at the moment too, I'm reading Emmaby Jane Austen and Engleby by Sebastian Faulkes. Both very different, but both very good. Two different protagonists from two very different societies, yet somehow the reader is able to identify with both.

I'm looking forward to having a chance to relax in the sunshine.. and concentrate on one book at a time!
But for now, it's nearly bed time and I've got lots to do and succeed at in the next couple of days. Luckily bananas help pacify a turbulent tummy!

There's a lot of sadness in the news this evening. loss and death and sadness.
I'm lucky to be happy. Puts my own feelings of negativity and worry into perspective.

Everything will be ok. If I don't get a teaching job for september then something else will come along and I feel sure that I will be happy because everything happens for a reason.

June is going to be a good month. I have decided.

:-)

This month, I will be finishing my placement, this means taking full responsibility for the class. So I suspect that June will also be an exhausting month, but it will be rewarding and that's important.
